【活動目的】本次活動很榮幸邀請到中央研究院基因體研究中心洪上程院士於本校進行線上專題講座,分享洪院士與他的團隊在細胞表面的醣分子與其在疾病診斷與預防上的研究。期望透過此次演講,讓本校師生與同仁更深入了解醣生物學在疾病診斷與預防上的研究,激發學生對該領域的興趣與研究熱忱,並培育精準醫療與精準健康產業人才。以下為講者提供之演講摘要:

Glycans are exceptionally diverse and complex that deciphering the functions embedded within the glycome is a substantial challenge. The multiple regio- and stereochemical permutations for linking several monosaccharide units and the modifications that may follow chain assembly allowed these complex sugars to hold structural information densities that surpass DNA or proteins. The cell-surface carbohydrates bind a host of basic proteins that take advantage of the sugar's dense structural information. The significance of these interactions in various aspects of development, physiology, and disease stimulated keen interest in evaluating structure–activity relationships. The well-defined cell-surface saccharides needed for these studies can be mainly accessed by chemical synthesis. A combination of “regioselective one-pot protection” and “stereoselective one-pot glycosylation” strategies will be applied to prepare a variety of cell-surface carbohydrates. Investigations of various protein interactions with the synthetic constructs delivered valuable information that could aid future diagnosis, prevention and drug development endeavors.
