KMU’s Higher Education Sprout Project (year 107-111) aims at two phases, “obtaining healthcare ability in the future” and “artificial intelligence for the new generation of precision health promotion talents.” Grounded on "human-centered care", "cross-domain innovation" and "smart health."  The achievements and highlights are summarized as follows:

A. Practicing Innovation of Teaching and Enhancing Quality of Teaching

1.Obtaining most cases ratified by Teaching Practice Research Program among private universities, and having two teachers win National Excellent Teacher Award: In the past 5 years, KMU obtained 121 MOE Teaching Practice Research Program, which was 60% pass rate. In the past four years KMU obtained most cases ratified by Teaching Practice Research Program among private universities. In the past 3 years there were two KMU teachers who won National Excellent Teacher Award.

2.Fully introducing Program Design courses, and student teams obtaining ICT Innovative Services Awards: In order to establish information capability, KMU helped students study Python(I) or (II), increasing course completion rates from 33% to 81.62%; student teams obtained ICT Innovative Services Awards, receiving the first prize in “Landseed-health healthcare innovation application group.”

3.Colleges focusing on “promoting precision health,” enriching online learning resources, transforming medical education: Each college applied virtual reality technology to establish characterized digital learning materials, including incorporating VR in 3D slicer in anatomy courses, introducing medical 3D printing in practice, extending digital dental education center by enhancing digital clinical teaching. The Department of Dentistry participated in National Dental Students Clinical Skills Simulation Competition for five successive years, and achieved good results.

B. Developing the Characteristics of School

1.The ranking in THE Universitys Influence is outstanding. It also receives international recognition for “SDG3 Good Health and Well-being”: Our school ranks the 237th in the world in the 2021 World University Influence Ranking, which was not only the 3rd place, but also the 1st among the private universities in Taiwan. In addition, it was ranked in the top 10 in the world and the top 2 in the country for two consecutive years for “SDG3 Good Health and Well-being”. Also, in the past two years, our school has achieved comparable results with excellent performance in indicators such as “SDG4 Quality Education”, “SDG5 Gender Equality”, “SDG12 Responsible Consumption and Production”, “SDG13 Climate Action” and “SDG15 Life on Land”.

2.It has been recognized by the National Innovation Award for many times, and joined hands with southern industries to invest in smart epidemic prevention: The school has actively coached the team to invest in the research and development of precision medicine and smart biomedical. So far, a total of 18 teams have been recognized by the “National Innovation Award”. It also joined hands with the Nanliu Mask National Team and Dynamic Computing Technology to invest in smart epidemic prevention. The intelligent technology epidemic prevention products were exhibited at the “Taiwan HealthCare Expo.”

C. Promoting Publicity of Higher Education

1.Multiple supplementary teaching has been implemented, and economically or culturally disadvantaged and aboriginal students’ learning performance has been increasing year by year: In the past five academic years, more than 75% of economically or culturally disadvantaged students have practical experience in internship, and the passing rate of the national examination has increased by 70% since 2017 to 80% in 2022. The drop-out rate of original students decreased from 14.13% in the 108 academic year to 9.82% in the 110 academic year.

2.The school affairs accountability report has been integrated into the advanced school affairs analysis to improve school affairs decision-making: The advanced school affairs analysis has been integrated into the annual accountability report to adjust the school affairs policy and accordingly amend the content of Higher Education Sprout Project. In the past five years, 3 poster papers and 6 seminar papers have been produced in school affairs research seminars domestically and abroad, and three seminar papers have won the award for annual excellent paper.

D. Reinforcing University Social Responsibility

1.Founded on expertise and targeting at local issues, the KMU fulfills its social responsibility: Our curriculums center on local issues to help solve problems in the community. These include teaching materials developed to promote safe medication use in Qijin District, picture books for elementary school students on the problem of air pollution and multi-lingual boardgames with the topic of “Fighting against Asthma” and “My Beautiful Hometown” in Xiaogang District. Besides, we created a course “Namasia Study” with the locals, in an attempt to help preserve bio-diversity and sustain Namasia’s culture. Together we made the book “My Good Friends in the Forest” in the aboriginal language, and won awards in the science exhibition on the high school level. In 2021 the KMU published “Reports on University Social Responsibility” to respond to the U.N.’s 17 SDGs, publicizing its achievements on school governance, practice of social responsibility, and development of sustainability, to stakeholders. These efforts were recognized, in 2021 and 2022 respectively, with the gold and silver awards for “Taiwan Sustainability Report” on the college level.    

These abovementioned achievements feature the KMU’s excellent teaching quality and academic research, and its innovative method on fulfilling its social responsibility. Based on these results, the KMU will continue to upgrade its education to the next level and extend its influence on Taiwan’s society.
