KMU’s Higher Education Sprout Project (year 113) aims at cultivating "Smart Health Care of sustainable Talent for the Post-pandemic Era" as the main achievement of the first phase of the second stage plan. This initiative integrates four key elements: human-centered care, cross-domain innovation, smart health, and social action. The achievements and highlights are summarized as follows: 

A. Teaching Innovation and Enhancement

1.   Overall integrating programming design courses, and launched three micro courses in artificial intelligence to cultivate cross disciplinary digital talents: Through the Information capability assessments, students were guided to study Python(I) or (II) according to their skill level, with the completion rates have increased from 33% to 84.58%. In addition, opening courses, including “Transdisciplinary Care for Dysphagia” and micro courses in AI for healthcare, with a total of 403 students have enrolled and completed the courses.

2.  College education focusing “Health Promotion and Professional Practice”, utilizing smart technology to transform medical education: By integrating AR, VR, and AI, 3D Slicer and VR were introduced to Anatomy Instruction, a 3D Model of Cervical Spinal Nerve Variations was developed, enhancing students professional skills and expertise in 3D ModelingIn addition, AI assisted instruction has guided the students to interpret Lymph Nodes metastasis of oral squamous cell carcinoma, the accuracy rates have increased from 50% -75% to 100%.

3.  Obtaining most cases ratified by Teaching Practice Research Program among private universities, and having seven teachers win National Education Honors: Over the past seven years, KMU has obtained 163 MOE Teaching Practice Research Programs. Through the valuable experiences, we have maintained a priority status among private Medical Schools. Faculty members across the colleges have gained experiences in executing these projects. In the past five years, 7 faculty have been recognized with prestigious educational awards, including 3 Teacher Awards, 1 Educator Model Award, and 2 School Sports Contribution Awards. 

B. Reinforcing University Social Responsibility

1.  Reinforcing social responsibility by creating resilient campus and multifaceted impact: The KMU Academy of Life combined with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in its educational programs to enhance students awareness and the comprehension of SDGs. It has implemented digital services, including Smart Intelligence Blackboard and AI-driven librarians, abbreviating the digital equipment recovery time to 4 hours while enhancing the energy efficiency system and the disaster risk prevention. KMU actively engages with 40 local neighborhoods, promoting health initiatives, music therapy, and other diverse services. Additionally, we share knowledge through the “Kaohsiung Medical University Digital Audio-Visual Platform” to strengthen community bonds. Since 2021, “University Social Responsibility Reports” have been published, receiving recognition for three continuous years in the “Taiwan Sustainability Awards – Sustainability Reporting” category. 

C. University-industry Cooperation and Bonding

1.  Students’ internship rates exceed 90%, demonstrating excellent career transition outcomes: A total of 2,874 students have participated in industry’ internships, arranged by 20 departments from the academic year 111 to the academic year 112, with the passing rate above 99.55%. Over 86% of graduates in the medical and health fields indicated their professional skills align with the demands of their current jobs, showcasing the significant influence of internships to career development.

2.  Advancing both study and industry practical internship, resulting in significant boost in research and career capabilities: The college offers summer study research and development training courses to strengthen students’ research and development capabilities, with a consistent passing rate of over 40% in the “National Science and Technology Council University Student Research Program”, which is integrated with innovative courses, creative workshops and entrepreneurship contests for enhancing the capability of industry internship, with faculty and students have constantly received the top prize in national innovation and entrepreneurship Contest.

D. Promoting Publicity of Higher Education

1.  Fulfill diverse educational support, leading learning performance to steadily increased: The school has achieved a 100% outreach rate in providing care and support for economically or culturally disadvantaged students. Through personalized academic counseling, the national examination passing rate has increased from 70% in 2017 to 82.35% in 2024.

2.  Impressive performance demonstrated in THE University Impact Rankings, with international recognition for SDG3, SDG4, SDG5, SDG10: In the 2024 THE World University Impact Rankings, our university ranked in the top 25% globally for SDG4 “Quality Education” and SDG10 “Reduced Inequalities,” achieving 9th and 8th place nationally, respectively. This highlights the university’s strong commitment to education and its exceptional efforts in supporting economically and culturally disadvantaged students. These achievements continue the recognition received in 2020 with the 'Outstanding Achievement Award for Comprehensive Enrollment Mechanisms in Higher Education.”.

The abovementioned highlighted achievements feature with KMU in teaching quality and academic research, its social responsibility, and innovations capabilities on various innovative breakthrough. Based on the results, we will constantly upgrade overall education, and extend its influence on Taiwan’s society.
